Important Medicare enrollment dates and details

October 15, 2023

It’s Medicare open enrollment time. Depending on your circumstances, this may be the only time to update your Medicare coverage, so it’s essential to dedicate some time to review and make appropriate selections for your healthcare needs. This year, there are some crucial factors to consider if you’re in the market.

When is open enrollment? For 2023 coverage, people can apply between October 15 and December 7, 2022.

What can I do during open enrollment? Those who already have Medicare can change their health or prescription drug plan during this time. Newly eligible people can sign up for the first time.

What are the highlights? There are a few significant changes to 2023 plans, thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act. A few main ones include:

  • People who take insulin covered by their prescription drug plan or through a traditional pump covered under Original Medicare will pay no more than $35 in cost-sharing for a month’s supply of each covered insulin product.
  • People will not pay a deductible for each covered insulin product.
  • There will be no out-of-pocket costs for adult vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. That includes things like shingles and Tetanus-Diphtheria-Whopping Cough.
