As the 2023 tax season approaches, I want to ensure you are well informed and prepared for the upcoming filing year. The official commencement of the tax season is set for January 23 this year, and it can prove advantageous to gather your tax documents even earlier.
Tax Day, the deadline for filing a federal income tax return, falls on April 15, 2024. If you request a six-month tax extension by submitting Form 4868 by April 15, the new filing deadline will be extended to October 15, 2024.
Here is an outline of when you can expect to receive your tax documents:
January 31, 2024: Preliminary Documents - By January 31, you can expect to receive preliminary tax documents, such as Forms 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, and 1099-MISC, which detail income and dividends earned during the 2023 calendar year.
Certain IRS tax forms, like K-1s, might not reach you until mid-March
Due to the possibility that you could receive revised tax documents, we highly recommend you don’t file your taxes until the end of March, or in April.
We also recommend choosing paperless delivery on tax documents where applicable, so you have easy 24/7 access to the most up-to-date documents and don't have to store and secure paper documents or wait around for the mail.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our team for any specific requirements or additional information.
